Profiles of member associations
Frederick Area Landscape Contractors and Nurserymen (FALCAN)
FALCAN, established in 1978, is comprised of nurserymen, landscapers
and arborists from the Frederick area as well as software companies,
equipment companies, landscaping supply companies and students. FALCAN
is involved in community service projects, such as Roof Raising Projects,
Heartly House, Veterans Memorial, and other local charities. FALCAN
sponsors an annual regional and statewide pesticide update. The proceeds
from this event support a scholarship fund for a local graduate pursuing
a career in the green industry. FALCAN also provides educational benefit
to its members via monthly dinner seminars.
Landscape Contractor's Assoc., Inc. MD, DC, VA (LCA)
LCA is a community of landscape professionals that advances the
collective business interests of its members through education and knowledge
exchange. Established in 1967, the Landscape Contractors Association MD-DC-VA
has met the needs of landscape professionals throughout the region. LCA members
include landscape contractors, landscape architects and designers, grounds
departments, educational institutions and suppliers. The LCA provides
educational seminars to its members, sponsors a landscape contractor's
certification program, and produces a monthly magazine, Groundwork.
Maryland Arborist Association, Inc. (MAA)
The mission of the Maryland Arborist Association, Inc. is to
promote education in the field of arboriculture; to support the
success of commercial arborists and to promote the importance of
professional tree care in the state. Its membership includes many
Licensed Tree Experts. As such, the MAA is very active in
representing Maryland arboriculture industry before the Maryland Legislature.
Maryland Association of Green Industries, Inc. (M.A.G.I.)
M.A.G.I. is a coalition comprised of associations and companies who
work in the Green Industry in Maryland. M.A.G.I.'s members include businesses
associated with agronomy, lawn care, institutional grounds and sports turf
maintenance, golf course maintenance, and arboriculture. The goal of the
organization is to represent its constituent groups before the Maryland Legislature.
The MGGA, established in 1970, is composed of 120 Green Industry members
in private horticultural business, industry, government, private and public
gardens, education, and research. The MGGA is dedicated to serving its
members by promoting the general interest of growers of greenhouse crops,
ornamental crops, and cut flowers in Maryland and the surrounding states.
The MGGA provides its services through such activities and programs as a
monthly newsletter, seminars and tours, legislative representation, and
promotion of the industry to students.
Since 1931, the MNLA's mission has been to promote the use of
ornamental plants, products, and services. The MNLA supports all
constituent groups of the horticulture industry, including landscape,
garden centers, interiorscape, grounds maintenance, nursery, greenhouse,
arboriculture, botanical gardens and other allied businesses. The MNLA
provides a unified voice, communicating to the public the vital role of
the green industry in improving the quality of life. The MNLA serves its
membership through such activities as legislative representation, educational
training days, student scholarships, quarterly newsletter publication,
exhibits at public and private industry events, and research support.
